An elevator inspection operation signal system is provided that is configured to provide a visual and/or audio indication of a moving elevator counterweight during operation of an elevator in an inspection mode of operation. An elevator inspection operation signal system includes one or more signal assemblies attached to an elevator counterweight. Each of the one or more signal components has a visual and/or audio component. The controller interface is in communication with one or more signal components. One or more switches are in interface communication with the controller and are further configured to place the elevator in an inspection mode of operation. Activation of the one or more switches results in activation of the visual and/or audio component.
