The invention provides a safety tongs system of an elevator speed governor. The safety tongs system comprises a speed governor steel wire rope; the lift car safety tongs are arranged on a lift car of the elevator and connected with the first end of the speed limiter steel wire rope; the counterweight safety tongs are arranged on a counterweight of the elevator and are connected with the second end of the speed limiter steel wire rope; the bidirectional speed governor is combined with the speed governor steel wire rope so as to detect the moving speed of the speed governor steel wire rope; the telescopic mechanism is mounted on the fixed structure; and the floating wheel set is rotatably installed on the telescopic mechanism, and the floating wheel set is suitable for tensioning the speed limiter steel wire rope through the elastic force of the telescopic mechanism so as to compensate the influence of the length extension of the speed limiter steel wire rope on the tensioning force. The bidirectional speed governor is arranged between the lift car and the counterweight to control the safety tongs on the lift car and the counterweight, so that part of parts are omitted, the total occupied space of a shaft is reduced, the tensioning force can be automatically adjusted according to the length of a rope, and the overall stability is improved.
