The invention relates to a function control method for an active rear wheel steering system, and the method comprises the steps: obtaining a vehicle state signal, detecting whether the active rear wheel steering system is normal or not, and if the active rear wheel steering system is normal, calculating a target reference vehicle speed, a road adhesion coefficient and a transverse gradient of a vehicle according to the vehicle state signal; switching to a target rear wheel steering mode according to the vehicle state signal, and calculating a target rear wheel steering angle in the target rear wheel steering mode based on the vehicle state signal, the reference vehicle speed, the road adhesion coefficient and the transverse gradient; and calculating a target motor current in the target rear wheel steering mode based on the target rear wheel steering angle, and calculating a target output torque of the motor according to the target motor current, so that the motor controls the vehicle based on the target output torque. Therefore, the problem that mode scene switching cannot be achieved through a traditional rear wheel steering system is solved, the sensitivity of the vehicle at the low speed and the stability of the vehicle at the high speed are improved, and expansion of more scene modes of rear wheel steering in the future is facilitated.
