A target material removal (TMR) element is provided, and the target material removal (TMR) element includes a body region; a thermal element within the body region; and a vibrating element within the body region. The TMR elements are controlled to perform a TMR operation that includes one or more of the thermal elements generating heat that is transferred to a target material through the body region in a manner that defines one or more zones of the target material. The TMR operation further includes, after the one or more of the thermal elements begin to generate the heat transferred to the target material through the bulk region, performing a thermal transfer to the target material through the bulk region. One or more of the vibrating elements generate vibrations that are transmitted through the body region to the one or more regions of the target material.
