The invention discloses incremental guidance of functionality for autonomous and semi-autonomous systems and applications. In various examples, incremental guidance of functionality for autonomous systems and applications is described herein. Systems and methods are disclosed that use different stages to direct functionality of a machine in order to more quickly provide at least a portion of the functionality without compromising the safety of the machine. For example, during a first phase, resources associated with a machine may be allocated when initializing a function. Further, at least a first portion of the functionality, such as a functionality that does not compromise the security of the machine if an error occurs, may be made available for use by one or more users of the machine. Subsequently, during the second phase, at least a second portion of the functionality, such as a functionality that may compromise security of the machine if an error occurs, may be made available for use by a user of the machine.
