Tunable linear antenna transponders and methods of making and using the same are described. In some embodiments, the transponder includes two radiators made of an electrically conductive material, where the radiators may be the same or different. In some embodiments, the radiator is divided into a plurality of segments, where each segment is in the form of a linear segment, a helical spring segment, or a cylindrical segment. In some embodiments, the shapes and/or helical spring pitches of the two consecutive segments differ. Different transmission line segments provide additional degrees of freedom, allowing antenna resonance to have finer/improved tunability.
