The invention relates to a transverse flux machine with asymmetric windings. A multi-phase transverse flux machine, TFM, includes a rotor assembly and a stator assembly. The rotor assembly is configured to rotate about an axis and includes a plurality of rotor cores and a plurality of pairs of permanent magnets. The stator assembly includes a transverse flux core configured to direct magnetic flux toward the rotor assembly in each of an axial direction and a radial direction, and a plurality of stator windings. The plurality of stator windings includes a first phase winding having a first number of turns and a second phase winding having a second number of turns less than the first number of turns.
