A vehicle and related system and monitoring method are provided for detecting insulation loss on one side of a power converter. In one embodiment, a method involves monitoring a normalized voltage input to a power conversion module coupled to a motor, in response to the normalized voltage exceeding a diagnostic activation threshold, determining a first number of instances for which a range between consecutive extremums of the normalized voltage exceeds an insulation loss range threshold within a diagnostic time window, and automatically initiating a remedial action when the first number is greater than the insulation loss detection threshold.
