The present invention provides a sliding device capable of preventing incomplete locking in a periphery of a first-stage locking tooth of a lower rail. A lock plate (11) of a locking mechanism (4) has a pair of protrusions (11e) that protrude in the width direction. The sliding device comprises a pair of guide parts (19b) that abut against the pair of protrusions (11e) and thereby restrict displacement of the lock plate (11) in the vertical direction (Z). When the lock plate (11) enters the lock tooth formation zone (TZ), the pair of guide parts (19b) abut against the pair of protrusions (11e) until immediately before the lock plate (11) reaches a position where first-stage lock teeth (2e1) closest to a free zone (FZ) of the lock plate (11) can engage with engagement holes (11b1) closest to the free zone (FZ) of a plurality of engagement holes (11b) in the lock plate (11), thereby restricting displacement of the lock plate (11) toward an up (Z1) direction directed to the lock teeth (2e) and releases the restriction at the engagement position to allow the displacement of the lock plate (11) toward the up (Z1) direction.
