The box (9) has a shaft (14) sliding along an axis (X) between a rest position toward which the shaft is urged by a spring (24), and an active position. A processor co-operates with the shaft to deliver orders as a function of angular position of the shaft. A handle (15) causes the shaft to rotate. An end (23) of the shaft causes the shaft to slide from the rest position in which anti-rotation units e.g. grooves (27) prevent the shaft from rotation, to the active position in which the anti-rotation units leave the shaft free to rotate under drive from the handle. An independent claim is also included for a device for operating an aircraft landing gear hatch on ground.
