An auto-calibration system (200) for a passenger conveyance system includes a depth-sensing sensor (202) disposed within a passenger conveyance enclosure (22) or disposed within a passenger waiting area (H) external to the conveyance enclosure (22) for capturing depth map data of objects within a field of view. A processing module (206) is in communication with the depth-sensing sensor (202) to receive the depth map data, the processing module (206) using the depth map data to calibrate the sensor coordinate system to the world coordinate system.
