A modular master cylinder (1) with a housing formed of an outer casing (2) and inner sleeve (3) for facilitating a method of manufacturing a plurality of such master cylinders (1). The method includes manufacturing a plurality of outer casings (2) and inner sleeves (3) and pairing each of the outer casings (2) with one of the inner sleeves (3). Each outer casing (2) has a first fluid port (20) and each inner sleeve (3) has a chamber (9) and a second fluid port (30) which is in communication with the chamber (9). The first fluid ports (20) of the outer casings (2) are in respective different positions, while the second fluid ports (30) of the inner sleeves (3) are in a common position. A passageway (35) is formed by grooves (35a, 35b, 35c) in the inner sleeve (3) of each pair and the inner sleeve (3) inserted into the outer casing (2) such that the passageway (35) fluidly connects the fluid ports (20, 30) together.
