A method of determining whether it is necessary to inert an aircraft fuel tank (11) is provided. The method comprises providing (101, 701) a temperature value indicative of a temperature of the fuel (F) in a fuel tank after refuelling or indicative of the temperature at the aircraft's predicted departure time and location, and based on said temperature value, determining (102, 702) whether or not it is necessary to inert the aircraft fuel tank (11). A method (1) of controlling the supply of inerting gas to the fuel tank (11) is also provided, as is an aircraft fuel tank inerting control system (201, 801).
