Disclosed is a method for early starting of an internal combustion engine in a power train (GMP) of a hybrid vehicle comprising at least one internal combustion engine and one electric machine, when its drive train changes from a purely electrical current state to a second target state likely to require the starting of the internal combustion engine in order to satisfy the request by the driver for force at the wheel, characterised in that it involves: - comparing the maximum force that can be produced by the electrical branch of the drive train in each of the target electrical states of the power train, with the force that each of them must satisfy in order to be selected or maintained as a target state; and - imposing an early start request on the internal combustion engine, if none of the target electrical states is capable of satisfying the force request by the driver.
