The receiver module (112) is operable to convert the aircraft transponder signal received by the first radio antenna (111) to a multilateration-purpose signal for transmission via the first data communication port. The airfield surveillance unit further comprises a second radio antenna (118) configured to receive and/or transmit 5G radio signals, and a 5G communication module (117) coupled to the power supply module (113) and configured to be coupled to the second radio antenna and operable to process 5G radio signals received by the second radio antenna.
