The invention relates to a method for controlling the tightening torque of an electromechanical brake (1) for a motor vehicle. The brake (1) comprises an electric motor (2) provided with a rotary shaft intended to drive mechanical brake clamping means (3). The method comprises the following steps: - determining an indicator, referred to as the reaction torque observer (6), which characterises at least one reaction of the mechanical brake clamping means (3) according to a rotational speed (7) of the rotary shaft of the electric motor (2) and an intensity (8) of a power supply current of the electric motor; and - regulating the tightening torque of the brake according to the reaction torque observer.
