The invention relates to a stairlift guide rail element comprising a tubular base extending along a longitudinal axis from a first end wall to a second end wall, wherein the first end wall is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and the second end wall is slanted with respect to the longitudinal axis to provide a curvature with an angle α to the guide rail element, wherein the angle of curvature α is in the range of 0° – 10°. The stairlift guide rail element further comprises a projection extending outwardly from one of the first and the second end wall and a groove in the other of the first and second end wall. The invention further relates to a stairlift guide rail connector, a straight guide rail element, a guide rail assembly and a method for installing a stairlift guide rail.
