Systems and methods for training a radar sensor to determine positioning of an elevator car within an elevator system are provided. The method comprises calibrating a target reflector signal, calibrating one or more reference reflector signals, comparing frequencies of the target reflector signal and the one or more reference reflector signals, determining for each of the one or more reference reflector signals, a frequency distance between the target reflector signal and the reference reflector signal, and generating a distance measuring signal pattern based on the frequency distance of each of the one or more reference reflector signals.
