The proposed solution relates to a drive unit (A) for an electric bicycle, comprising at least an output shaft (2), an input shaft (1) for the production of a first input torque by a driver of the electric bicycle by means of muscle force, the input shaft being rotatable about an input axis of rotation (D1), an electric motor (E) for the powered production of a second input torque at a rotor shaft (3) coupled to the electric motor (E), and a transmission device (4, 5) having at least one planetary gear train (5) for transmitting the first and second input torques to the output shaft (2). The rotor shaft (3) and the output shaft (2) are coaxial with each other in the proposed drive unit (A), and the input axis of rotation (D1) runs parallel to the rotor shaft (3) and to the output shaft (2).
