The invention relates to a method for determining the position of a trackbound vehicle (1) moving along a track (2), in particular a rail vehicle. In order to provide a method alternative to that which is known, according to the method of the invention, a distance (r) and/or an angle (φ) with respect to at least one landmark (3) is determined by means of at least one sensor device (6) on the vehicle, digital position information which describes the course of the track (2) and the at least one landmark (3) in a common reference system is provided, and the digital position information is used to calculate a position of the vehicle (1) taking the determined distance (r) and/or angle (φ) into account. The invention also relates to a device for determining position.
