The invention relates to a hybrid brake for a lifting machine, comprising: an upper plate (2) and a lower plate (3) forming a clamp capable of gripping a disc (1), the upper plate being axially slidably mounted in a half-caliper (4); a stack of disc springs (10) arranged in the half-caliper; a negative piston (80) axially sliding in the half-caliper, the negative piston capable of being placed in an open-brake position when a first power source is activated, the negative piston being urged into a closed-brake position by the stack of disc springs when the first power source is inactive; an axially sliding positive piston (90) capable of being placed in a closed-brake position when a second power source is activated, the positive piston being placed in an open-brake position by means of a return spring (98) when the second power source is inactive.
