An aircraft includes a rotary airfoil device (14; 114; 214) having an output shaft (42; 342) rotatable around an airfoil rotation axis (46; 314); an electric engine (12; 112; 212) having a source shaft (40) drivingly coupled to the output shaft (42; 342); a controller (122; 222) in communication with the electric engine (12; 112; 212); a low voltage electric system (132) operable to power the controller (122; 22); a high voltage electric system (119) having a high voltage battery (120; 262) operable to power the electric engine (12; 112; 212), the high voltage battery (120; 262) further operable to power the low voltage electric system (132) via a voltage converter (136; 236); and an electromagnetic generator (138) having a generator shaft coupled to the output shaft (42; 342), the electromagnetic generator (138) operable to power the low voltage electric system (132).
