A computer system (200) for controlling lift axles (130) of a heavy vehicle is provided, and including processing circuitry (210) configured to: obtain capability data (132) indicative of a lift axle capability for each of the lift axles, wherein the capability data is indicative of level changing rate-limitations for each of the lift axles; obtain road data (220) pertinent to a road section (222) along which the vehicle is to be driven; determine a desired lift axle configuration for the road section based on the obtained road data, and control a lowering or raising of each of the lift axles based on the obtained capability data, to achieve the desired lift axle configuration at the road section. A corresponding method, a vehicle including the device, as well as a corresponding computer program product and computer-readable storage medium are also provided.
