Disclosed is a method and a system for calculating or estimating dynamic tire loads from acceleration data. A virtual footprint length is calculated from acceleration data obtained from the inertial unit of the vehicle. Dynamic tire loads or dynamic vehicle load data are calculated from the virtual footprint length that is calculated from the acceleration data obtained from the inertial unit.
