A battery electric vehicle (100) includes: a driving operation member (22); a pseudo shifting operation member (24) imitating an operation member that is used to perform a shifting operation of a manual transmission internal combustion engine vehicle; and a controller (101) configured to control the battery electric vehicle (100) according to an operation of the driving operation member (22). A plurality of control modes includes a manual mode and an automatic mode. The controller (101) includes a memory (103). The controller (101) determines, upon starting of the battery electric vehicle (100), whether a new driver who has entered the battery electric vehicle (100) is included in one or more candidate drivers. When the new driver is included in the one or more candidate drivers, the controller (101) starts the control mode linked with the new driver.
