The present invention relates to a method for providing location-dependent traffic information, comprising: defining a monitoring region (10) for a first mobile device (1); detecting an associated current location of the first mobile device (1); transmitting position data or movement information, by means of the first mobile device (1), to a server (3) in response to the fact that the current location is within the monitoring region (10); carrying out a checking process by means of the server (3), wherein it is checked, for the first mobile device (1), whether a condition is met, wherein the predefined condition defines a dependency between the current position data or movement information of the first mobile device (1) and current position data or movement information of a second mobile device (2) which is also located within the monitoring region (10), wherein the predefined condition indicates the occurrence of a traffic situation caused by the second mobile device (2); and transmitting information, by means of the server (3), to the first mobile device (1) in response to the fact that it is determined, during the checking process, that the predefined condition is met, wherein the information indicates the occurrence of the identified traffic situation with regard to the second device (2).
