Disclosed is a device for mounting to the rear of the vehicle, the device having a mounting mechanism 81, a camera 84, and a sensor 83. The device can record movement, for instance, of a tailing vehicle. The sensor may be a proximity sensor such as a passive infrared sensor (PIR) which detects whether a tailing vehicle is tailgating, and in turn activate the camera if it is. The device may also display a message to the tailing vehicle warning them that they are being recorded. This device may therefore deter tailgating and provide evidence to third parties should an accident occur. The device may be powered either by a lithium-ion battery or by the 12V supply of the vehicle. It may be capable of being remotely controlled by a smartphone. It may be mounted by suction cups, adhesive, or magnetic means. The device may be rotationally adjustable. The camera may store data on a SD flash memory card or a dedicated hard drive. The device may have wired or wireless data communication means.
