A method following a road-traffic collision involving a first vehicle 31 comprises; obtaining data relating to the first vehicle’s user 41 identity; obtaining collision location data; obtaining data about damage caused to the vehicle and other data about the vehicle; determining a base cost of repairing the damage or replacing components based on the damage data; determining an adjustment factor based on the damage data and other data; and establishing a value associated with the damage based on the base cost and adjustment factor. The damaged vehicle may have collided with an obstacle [283, fig. 6] or a second vehicle 32 having a second user 42. This method allows the vehicle users (drivers) to decide whether to make a claim through their insurance companies or to settle the cost of the damage themselves. Also claimed is a system comprising a remote primary controller 80, and a first controller on the first user’s device 51 or the first vehicle’s device, wherein the system is configured to perform this method. There may be a second controller on the second user’s device 52 or the second vehicle’s device.
