A motion simulator 100 with a platform 104 arranged to carry out sway, surge, and yaw movements relative to its base 102. The base comprises first and second linear base rails 110,112, each extending along a first axis. The platform comprises first and second linear platform rails 114, 116, 118, each extending along a second axis. Base carriages 120, 122, 124 are mechanically constrained to move along each base rail. Platform carriages 126, 128 are mechanically constrained to move along each platform rail. A first motor 132 actuates the first base carriage along the first base rail. A second motor 134 actuates the second base carriage along the second base rail. A third motor 136 actuates the first or second platform carriage along the respective platform rail. Each platform carriage is pivotally coupled, via couplings 138, to the respective base carriage, providing rotational movement of the platform relative to the base about a moveable rotational centre. The moveable rotation centre is determined by the positions of the carriages.
