Vehicle control system and method, performs automated / autonomous operation(s) (e.g. vehicle speed, deceleration rate, acceleration rate, following distance, turning rate) not requiring driver / occupant input, stores data pertaining to baseline driver / occupant state (e.g. driver biometrics / physiology, heart rate, respiration, pupil size or dilation, body temperature, facial expression, skin colour or pigmentation, state of consciousness) and collects data pertaining to current driver state / instant occupant condition, compares baseline data to current data, and modifies a parameter governing the autonomous action. Baseline occupant state data may be adjusted / updated depending on current occupant state. Baseline and instant driver data may be taken for a second occupant, and used to adapt automated vehicle operation. Driver intervention may be detected and used to adjust both driverless vehicle operation and baseline occupant data. Also included is a system for performing autonomous vehicle action, detecting driver intervention, and modifying a parameter governing the automated action.
