Disclosed is a method of determining an operating condition of a valve 16 of an aircraft system. The method includes obtaining (102, figure 3) a first time-period associated with actuating the valve, and a second time-period associated with actuating the valve. The method includes providing an indication 104 of an altered operating condition associated with actuation of the valve based on the first and second time periods. Also provided is an aircraft fuel system comprising a fuel storage tank 12, a fuel conduit 14, a valve 16 arranged to transfer fuel in/out of the tank wherein the valve is arranged in the conduit. Also provided is a controller 18 and an indicator 20 wherein the controller monitors a plurality of time periods associated with opening and closing the valve. The time periods are taken during different flights of the aircraft and are compared to a corresponding parameter. The indicator is configured to indicate that the valve is operating in an abnormal condition based on the comparison.
