An aerostructure component 6 comprises a core 10 sandwiched between two skins 7, 8 with at least one ply 9a-f comprising a plurality of elongate reinforcing elements in a metal matrix or MMC 36, the core comprising hollow spheres 11 in a metal matrix 37. The component is lightweight, strong, waterproof, thermally insulative and electrically conductive. The core may comprise elongate reinforcing elements 13 extending from an adjacent ply, the elements being aluminium oxide fibre, carbon fibre or silicon carbide fibre. The spheres may be metal or ceramic. The matrix may comprise aluminium or titanium. The component may form upper and lower surfaces (14a, 16a, Figure 4a) and side walls (14b) of an aircraft wing box 15, with reinforcing elements or beams (17a-e) arranged spanwise along the upper and lower surfaces. The side walls may comprise beams and at least one mounting feature for the attachment of further components.
