Method of compensating for a time delay between the vehicle state data transmitted from the drive-by-wire (DBW) system to the control system, and the control parameter 506 received by the DBW system from the control system, and determining a DBW parameter 508 based on the control parameter and the time delay latency, and navigating the vehicle 200 accordingly. The distance travelled by the vehicle along a path during the time lag may be compensated. The time difference may be calculated between a first timestamp at which vehicle state data is transmitted and a second timestamp at which control parameter is received to determine the time delay. Vehicle state may be longitudinal, lateral, or angular velocity; control parameter may be data related to control of the DBW system; DBW parameter may be a steering, powertrain, or braking parameter.
