A trailer vehicle control system, comprising a brake control module 13 (e.g. electronic brake system EBS modulator) for controlling the application and/or release of a brake pressure to a wheel 1-4 of a trailer and/or a parking brake, and an anti theft or anti tow control. The brake control module is connected to a communication bus on the trailer (e.g. CAN bus) and able to receive data inputs from trailer sensors (e.g. wheel speed sensors 5-8). When the anti theft or anti tow control is set to active, the trailer is immobilised (e.g. by applying the wheel brakes or parking brake) and the vehicle control system is provided with a first identification code. Deactivation of the antitheft control is only undertaken following successful biometric identification using a further device provided with biometric identification software (e.g. fingerprint, facial recognition on a smartphone), with the system being configured to map or confirm the map of the first identification code to one or more biometric identifiers. The brake control module may have a list or database of authorised access codes.
