A method of contrail suppression comprises using data generated during a flight of a first aircraft 1a. The data comprises atmospheric information indicative of an atmospheric condition and/or contrail information indicative of a presence or absence of contrails generated by the first aircraft. A second aircraft 1b performs one or more contrail suppression measures, such as switching a fuel system to a fuel less prone to cause contrails, based on the data. The data may also be used for planning or calculating a flight route of the second aircraft to suppress contrails. The route may also be calculated using external meteorological information and/or satellite observation and/or observations from ground-based sensors. A flight planning tool may calculate a risk of contrail generation for the calculated flight route and calculate a fuel load for the second aircraft based on the risk. The first aircraft may comprise a sensing system to generate the data, and a transmitter to transmit the data during flight.
