PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect white lines or the like without fault detection using images obtained by imaging areas lateral of a vehicle.SOLUTION: Demarcations of lateral traffic lanes lying laterally of a vehicle are detected from images obtained by lateral in-vehicle cameras imaging peripheral areas lateral of the vehicle, respectively. Furthermore, a demarcation of a front traffic lane lying ahead of the vehicle is detected from an image obtained by a front in-vehicle camera imaging a peripheral area ahead of the vehicle. Furthermore, a position of the demarcation of the front traffic lane is corrected on the basis of a time difference in imaging timing between the lateral in-vehicle cameras and the front in-vehicle camera and a running velocity. When the corrected position of the demarcation of the front lane is collated to a position of each of the demarcations of the lateral traffic lanes and the positions match each other, a detection result of the positions of the demarcations of the lateral traffic lanes is output as a detection result of traffic lanes. By doing so, there is no possibility of fault detection of the positions of the demarcations of the lateral traffic lanes, so that it is possible to detect the demarcations of the traffic lanes with high reliability using the images obtained by imaging the respective areas lateral of the vehicle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
【課題】車両から側方を撮影した画像を用いて、誤検出することなく白線等を検出する。【解決手段】車両の側方の周辺領域を撮影する側方車載カメラによる画像からは、車両の側方に存在する側方車線の区切りを検出する。また、車両の前方の周辺領域を撮影する前方車載カメラによる画像からは、車両の前方に存在する前方車線の区切りを検出する。更に、前方車線の区切りの位置を、側方車載カメラと前方車載カメラとの撮影タイミングの時間差と、走行速度とに基づいて修正する。そして、修正した前方車線の区切りの位置と、側方車線の区切りの位置とを照合して、両者が整合する場合に、側方車線の区切りの位置の検出結果を車線の検出結果として出力する。こうすれば、側方車線の区切りの位置を誤検出する虞がないので、車両から側方を撮影した画像を用いて、車線の区切りを高い信頼性で検出することが可能となる。【選択図】図2
