PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an unloader which can perform movement of a grab bucket and the like with a high accuracy, and a method for controlling the unloader.SOLUTION: Speeds V1, V2, V3, V4, at which a rope is taken up by four drums respectively, are determined from vertical movement speed Nh of a grab bucket, a lateral speed Nt of a trolley and an opening/closing speed Nc of the grab bucket, which are inputted from a controller 14 of an unloader, on the basis of the following four mathematical expressions (1) to (4), and rotational speeds of four motors are respectively controlled in an independent state on the basis of the determined speeds.
