PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relative position detecting device which suppresses upsizing of a permanent magnet portion and easily and accurately detects a relative displacement amount between the permanent magnet portion and a magnetic sensor over a wide range.SOLUTION: A permanent magnet portion 17 and a linear Hall IC 22 are arranged to be displaceable relative to each other. At least two magnetic pole portions 17a and 17b of the permanent magnet portion 17 are magnetized so that the magnetic poles thereof are different from each other in the direction in which the permanent magnet portion 17 faces the linear Hall IC 22, and are aligned in the direction of relative displacement. The permanent magnet portion 17 has a central portion 27 including a boundary 17j between the two magnetic pole portions 17a and 17b and two non-central portions 28a and 28b adjacent to each side of the central portion 27 in the relative displacement direction, and satisfies requirements that, in the central portion 27 and the non-central portions 28a and 28b, the cross-sectional area of the central portion 27 is smaller than the cross-sectional area of the non-central portions 28a and 28b and that the distance between the central portion 27 and the linear Hall IC 22 is longer than the distance between the non-central portion 28 and the linear Hall IC 22.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6

    【課題】永久磁石部の大型化を抑制し、永久磁石部と磁気センサとの相対変位量を、広い範囲にわたって簡便に且つ精度良く検出する相対位置検出装置を提供する。【解決手段】互いに相対変位可能に配置された永久磁石部17及びリニアホールIC22を備え、永久磁石部17の少なくとも二つの磁極部17a、17bは、永久磁石部17とリニアホールIC22との対向方向に磁極が互いに異なるように磁化され、かつ相対変位方向に並ぶ。永久磁石部17は、二つの磁極部17a、17bの境界17jを含む中央部分27と、相対変位方向において中央部分27の各片側に隣接する二つの非中央部分28a、28bとを有し、中央部分27と非中央部分28a、28bとが、中央部分27の断面積が非中央部分28a、28bの断面積よりも小さく、中央部分27とリニアホールIC22との距離が非中央部分28とリニアホールIC22との距離よりも長いという要件を満たす。【選択図】図6
