To provide an active vibration controller capable of obtaining vibration control performance equivalent to that in a case of making a mass of a rod body different from actual one, and a control method of the active vibration controller.SOLUTION: An active vibration controller 10 comprises: a pair of elastic connection parts 20, 30, a rod body 40 connecting the pair of elastic connection parts; an inertia mass 52 supported by the rod body; a drive part 58 configured to reciprocatively move the inertia mass in an axis direction of the rod body; and a control part 90 configured to enable acceleration feedback control of controlling the drive part so as to generate first force proportional to acceleration in the axis direction of the rod body.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
