To provide an internal combustion engine for a vehicle which can prevent that a chain case is warped due to stress applied from a tension impartment member, and can prevent that a connecting force between the chain case and an engine main body is lowered.SOLUTION: When setting a space which is surrounded by a first virtual plane face 91 for connecting a front boss part 53A and a rear boss part 53B, a second virtual plane face 92 extending to a fore-and-aft direction while passing a case-side connecting part 51A, a third virtual plane face 93 extending to a vertical direction while passing the front boss part 53A, and a fourth virtual plane face 94 extending to the vertical direction while passing the rear boss part 53B as a bracket arrangement space 96 in which a first mount bracket 46 is arranged, a tensioner connecting part 34a of an auto-tensioner 34 is arranged in the bracket arrangement space 96.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
