To provide a method, apparatus, and system for detecting moisture in panels in aircraft.SOLUTION: A method and system for an aerospace vehicle is disclosed. A pulses of electromagnetic radiation is transmitted into a composite sandwich panel such that the composite sandwich panel is heated to or above ambient temperature. The amount of infrared radiation generated in the composite sandwich panel in response to the pulse of electromagnetic radiation transmitted into the composite sandwich panel is detected using a time window selected to detect the amount of infrared radiation while the pulse of electromagnetic radiation heats the composite sandwich panel. The detected amount of infrared radiation indicates a level of moisture in the composite sandwich panel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
