To enable a small-sized formation and cost-reduction to be attained at a shift stage detection device of sequential speed changer constructed to detect the shift stage of the sequential speed changer having several shift stages that can be selectively established.SOLUTION: Several respective contact points 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 installed at a switch 18 in response to a respective one of several shift stages are divided into several groups of shift stages including at least two respective contact points, output means 28 outputs from different circuits to several shift stages in such a way that the same circuit is connected to a respective contact point contained in each of the shift stages, and processing means 31 decides a present shift stage in reference to several shift stages corresponding to output values of the shift stages and output means 28 stored by memory means 30 when the output value from the output means 28 is changed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
