To provide a peripheral monitoring system that can instantly recognize a change in a surrounding condition that occurs while a vehicle is stopped by an image displayed in real time without requiring high-speed computing performance.SOLUTION: A peripheral monitoring system includes a controller C that can capture an image of an imaging device I attached to a work machine H and output the image to an output destination, and the controller C includes a transmittance switching image compositing unit 2 that synthesizes transmittance switching images obtained by switching, at a predetermined cycle, a first transmittance composited image which is a composite of a current image of the imaging device I and a stopped time image stored in a stop time image memory at first transmittance, and a second transmittance composite image which is a composite of the current image and the stopped time image with second transmittance, and the transmittance switching image synthesized by a transmittance switching image output unit 3 is displayed on a display unit D visible to an operator.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
