To provide an operation monitoring device and an operation monitoring method that are able to monitor an operating state of a crane apparatus with higher accuracy.SOLUTION: An operation monitoring device comprises: a first acceleration sensor mounted near a drive source that drives a crane apparatus; an acquisition unit that acquires a detection signal from each of second acceleration sensors mounted in a position further apart than the first acceleration sensor from the drive source; a generation unit that generates a differential signal obtained by subtracting a detection signal from each of the second acceleration sensors from a detection signal from the first acceleration sensor; and a determination unit that, based on the differential signal, determines an operating state of the crane apparatus or the drive source.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
