To provide a peripheral vehicles surveillance system that detects positions of other vehicles with a small error even when satellite positioning errors are large.SOLUTION: An own-vehicle information providing unit 16 distributes the same information, including coordinates of an own-vehicle position (latitude, longitude, and altitude) as determined by satellite positioning with a GNSS receiver 11, and the speed and direction calculated with an own-vehicle status sensor 13, to other vehicles in the vicinity using an inter-vehicle communication device 12. A peripheral vehicle monitoring unit 17 calculates the position of the other vehicles based on the coordinates of notification information when the difference is small between a change in altitude indicated by the satellite positioning of the other vehicles as indicated by the notification information received from the other vehicles and a change in altitude indicated by a map between points on the road estimated as a position of the other vehicles at the time of receipt of the notification information, and calculates the position of the other vehicles based on the speed and the direction indicated by the notification information and a previous position of the other vehicles when the difference in altitude is large.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
