To prevent an SOC from reaching an upper-limit SOC value before completing a catalytic warmup operation after starting an operation at a high altitude and the like.SOLUTION: A control method includes: calculating a first correction amount KSOC 1 in accordance with an atmospheric pressure so that an initial SOC value SOCTGT decreases as an altitude increases, calculating a second correction amount KSOC 2 in accordance with a start-time catalyst temperature so that the initial SOC value SOCTGT decreases as the start-time catalyst temperature decreases, and correcting a basic start SOC SOCTGT 0 (steps 1 through 3); and starting an internal combustion engine 2 when the SOC of a battery 5 decreases to the initial SOC value SOCTGT, and executes a catalyst warmup operation accompanied by an ignition timing retard until a catalyst temperature reaches a threshold or higher (steps 4 through 7). By so doing, in the case of starting at a high altitude or a start-time catalyst temperature being low, power generation is started at a stage of an SOC falling lower, thus preventing the SOC from reaching an upper-limit SOC value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3

    【課題】高地などで始動後の触媒暖機運転が完了する前にSOCが上限SOC値に到達することがないようにする。【解決手段】標高が高いほど始動SOC値SOCTGTが低下するように大気圧に応じた第1補正量KSOC1を求め、始動時触媒温度が低いほど始動SOC値SOCTGTが低下するように始動時触媒温度に応じた第2補正量KSOC2を求め、基本始動SOC値SOCTGT0を補正する(ステップ1~3)。バッテリ5のSOCが始動SOC値SOCTGTにまで低下したら内燃機関2を始動し、触媒温度が閾値以上となるまで点火時期リタードを伴う触媒暖機運転を行う(ステップ4~7)。高地や始動時触媒温度が低い場合に、より低いSOCに低下した段階で発電が開始されることとなり、上限SOC値に達することがない。【選択図】図3
