To provide an ice breaking ship and a design method of the ice breaking ship capable of suppressing reduction in propulsion efficiency by a hull shell plate shape near the stern without using any additional product.SOLUTION: An ice breaking ship 1 according to a first embodiment is capable of moving forward while breaking ice plates, and comprises a chine 4 formed to configure a boundary between a ship side part 2 and a ship bottom part 3. An end point P1 of the chine 4 can be set at an arbitrary position within a 0-50% range (a range including a first region A1 and a second region A2) with respect to a propeller diameter D above a propeller center height L0 being a reference.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
