To provide a rubber modifier that gives a rubber composition high hardness and low tangent loss (tanδ), and enables both of high drivability and low fuel economy in a pneumatic tire including such a rubber composition.SOLUTION: A rubber modifier includes a predetermined silicon-containing compound including a fatty acid residue of rosin-derived fatty acid. More preferably, the fatty acid residue of rosin-derived fatty acid is preferably at least one fatty acid residue selected from the group consisting of abietic acid, neoabietic acid, dehydroabietic acid, pimaric acid, isopimaric acid, palustric acid, levopimaric acid and communic acid.SELECTED DRAWING: None

    【課題】ゴム組成物に、高い硬度と低い正接損失(tanδ)とを付与し、さらに、このようなゴム組成物を用いた空気入りタイヤにおいては、高い操縦性と低燃費性との両立を可能にする、ゴム改質剤を提供すること。【解決手段】本発明に係るゴム改質剤は、ロジン由来脂肪酸の脂肪酸残基を含む所定のケイ素含有化合物を含むことを特徴とし、より好ましくは、当該ロジン由来脂肪酸の脂肪酸残基は、アビエチン酸、ネオアビエチン酸、デヒドロアビエチン酸、ピマール酸、イソピマール酸、パラストリン酸、レボピマール酸およびクムン酸からなる群から選択される少なくとも1つの脂肪酸残基であることが好ましい。【選択図】なし
