To provide a steer-by-wire steering system characterized in that a turning angle of turning wheels are inhibited from getting excessive at the time of abrupt steering.SOLUTION: A reaction force actuator applies a steering reaction force Tn, which gets abruptly larger when it approaches an upper limit θsn within a virtual steering range, to a steering wheel at a normal time. At an abrupt steering time when a turning angle speed ωt becomes equal to or larger than a predetermined value ωth and a turn following delay Δθt(=θt*-θt) becomes equal to or larger than a predetermined value, the reaction force actuator applies a steering reaction force Te to the steering wheel on the basis of an upper limit θse associated with a narrow virtual steering range.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
