To cause a crew member to physically feel a steering sense of the other vehicle by simulating steering characteristics of the other vehicle in a control target vehicle.SOLUTION: A steering characteristic control method is provided for determining control target values δ_t and FR_t of steering actuators 14 and 12 by referring to steering characteristics C regulating behaviors of controlled variables δ and FR with respect to a manipulated variable θ of a control target vehicle with respect to a steering 11 on the basis of the controlled variable θ. In particular, the steering characteristic control method includes: acquiring simulation steering characteristics Cs which are the steering characteristics C of a simulation target vehicle different from the control target vehicle; and when a switching command signal Sr2 generated in response to a request from a crew member of the control target vehicle is detected, switching the steering characteristics C, which should be referenced, from basing steering characteristics Cb, which is determined to the control target vehicle, to the simulation steering characteristics Cs.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
